Mission Statement: Leonix is a movement theatre ensemble that devises original performance work based on community need and social reform.
The name “Leonix”, a fusion of the Lion and the Phoenix, is a metaphor of the troupe’s objective to create courageous and regenerative work. Drawing on traditions of many artistic disciplines, including melodrama, clowning, and modern dance, Leonix strives to create socially relevant performances that entertain, educate and empower individuals and communities. We accomplish this by partnering with community-based organizations to research and devise original performance work, as well as conducting workshops and dialogues based on performance or community need.

Theme of theater productions: L.A.’s Premiere African-American Theatre Company
Mission Statement:
Founded in the aftermath of the 1992 Los Angeles riots with the belief that we could affect social change through our art, the Towne Street Theatre’s mission is creating, developing and producing original work that is reflective of the African-American experience and perspective for theater and film.
In order to further illuminate the role African-American artists have played in the history of the American theater, we also produce a series enitled “Black Classics,” dedicated to the work of playwrights seldom produced, such as Loften Mitchell, Alice Childress and Steve Carter. Our mission of affecting social change is extended with our commitment to developing the next generation of theater artists through our children’s programming.
