Orange County Register’s Most Notable Theater of 2012

“For better or for worse,” according to Orange County Register Theater Critic Paul Hodgins.

Here’s his list for those shows that stood out in 2012, be they in LA County or Orange County, be they for their distinction or lack thereof. Nice to catch a little OC love from our brother down below. Paul is all over the place – as he readily admits – and settled on a cool twenty rather than the usual ten. You’ll have to read the article to find our whether these “notables” were on the positive or the negative side. Loved this comment about “The Car Plays”:

The highlight of the Segerstrom Center’s first Off Center Festival, these playlets were performed inside cars parked in the plaza in front of Segerstrom Hall. It was theater at its most gripping and elemental, and it redefined the cliché “in your face.”

Here’s the list:

“Topdog/Underdog” (South Coast Repertory)

“Car Plays” (Segerstrom Center)

“Elemeno Pea” (South Coast Repertory)

Ballet de Monte Carlo’s “Cinderella” (Segerstrom Center)
