“Tales of a Fourth Grade Lesbo” Returns December 8th & 9th – 3 Shows Only!

As we highlighted in this article a few months back, the Pasadena Playhouse almost committed an incredibly stupid PR gaff in banning this show because of its title. To their credit, they relented and the show is now set to hit the boards in early December. We are happy to help out writer/director of the project Gina Young and her cast and crew and post this bad boy – er – girl.

TALES OF A FOURTH GRADE LESBO RETURNS! DECEMBER 8 & 9 2012 AT THE CARRIE HAMILTON THEATER.

Los Angeles, CA, November 2012 – The production that hit a huge speed bump back in August is finally returning to the stage.Tales of a Fourth Grade Lesbo is a joyful, dance-filled romp through the bedrooms and classrooms of a group of girls growing up in the early 1990s. Inspired by the title of Judy Blume’s beloved novel Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing, this full-length comedic theatre piece with one intermission explores the subtle forms of homophobic bullying that all of us— gay AND straight— experienced growing up.

Written and directed by Gina Young (VH1’s Pop Up Video, internationally touring performance art pop duo Team Gina,) the show is a collaboration with Latina blogger and Pasadena native Amanda-Faye Jimenez. (www.AmandaFailurePrincess.com) Chock full of 80s & 90s pop songs, parodies of classic movies, and impromptu choreographed dance numbers, Tales of a Fourth Grade Lesbo had a sold-out run at Highways Performance Space in Santa Monica, June 2012.

Slated to move to the Carrie Hamilton Theater at the Pasadena Playhouse in August, the production faced difficulties when the Artistic Director of the Pasadena Playhouse expressed concern about presenting a play with such a title. An activist campaign sprung up around the show, and the Playhouse was inundated with emails from arts supporters and the LGBTQA community. Ultimately, a favorable conclusion was reached and the production will proceed at the Carrie Hamilton, as planned. The young cast was beyond thrilled.

This special limited engagement boasts just three performances: Saturday, December 8 at 8pm, Sunday December 9th at 2pm and 8pm. The all-female ensemble cast of twelve includes both professional actors and amateurs, of widely varying ethnic backgrounds and sexual orientations. All twelve original cast members were able to return and the show has been revised and expanded.
