MARILYN: Forever Blonde
STARRING SUNNY THOMPSON
AT EL PORTAL THEATRE MAINSTAGE
AUGUST 2 – 5, 2012
Lipstick Productions in association with El Portal Theatre proudly presents the award-winning and critically acclaimed one woman play with music MARILYN: FOREVER BLONDE starring Sunny Thompson, directed by Stephanie Shine and written by Greg Thompson. The limited five performance run will be August 2 – 5, 2012, celebrating the life of Marilyn Monroe as part of her 50th memorial, at the historic El Portal Theatre Mainstage in the NOHO Arts District, North Hollywood, CA. The production coincides with the 50th Memorial of her untimely demise in 1962, honoring the memory of the Hollywood Screen Legend.
Shortly before her death Marilyn Monroe posed for what would be her final photo session. MARILYN: FOREVER BLONDE is a recreation of what might have been Marilyn’s last chance to tell her own story in her own words. Conceived by award winning producer and writer Greg Thompson, the script has been painstakingly researched from hundreds of quotes from Marilyn herself and the result is two hours in Marilyn’s presence. The words in the play are all Marilyn’s own and the songs are all songs she sang in her movies although they are sung in a personal “storybook” style.
These are the final thoughts of a little girl who became a legend and in turn could never be loved or accepted for herself. The play is funny, sad, witty, titillating, sometimes scandalous and in the end heartbreaking as we watch the desperation of a woman lost in a world of Hollywood make-believe.
MARILYN: FORVER BLONDE has been touring the world to rave reviews and blockbuster box office. Thompson has performed the play over 400 times across the United States, across Canada, with tours of New Zealand and England. The play had a 12 week run on the West End in London where the West End Review called it “Magic and Enchanted”, and the London Sunday Times called it “Extraordinary! It is rare to see something so authentic or so full of integrity and depth”
The El Portal Theatre in North Hollywood sits next door to the elementary school that Monroe attended in the 1930′s and in remembrance of little Norma Jeane, the venue will dedicate it’s Forum Theatre to Marilyn and will re-christen the house “The Monroe Forum” during the run of MARILYN: FOREVER BLONDE with Sunny Thompson cutting the Opening Day ribbon. The ribbon cutting and renaming of the theatre is scheduled for 6 pm Saturday, August 4th in the lobbies of the El Portal.
