The Secret City June 10th–
WE WORSHIP ART
Obie-Award winning New York performance group, The Secret City, announces their first visit to Los Angeles - Sunday, June 10th at noon at the Bootleg Theater, 2220 Beverly Boulevard, Los Angeles, 90057.
Part tent-revival, part-cabaret, and part ceremony, The Secret City is a joyful happening for the creative community, where artists and art lovers gather to reconnect to their calling and each other. This visit represents the inaugural Los Angeles chapter.
The New York Times describes The Secret City as “Sort of a Salon, Sort of a Church… From its origins as a kind of fortifying ritual for beleaguered theater artists, [it] has grown into a half-irreverent, half-earnest blend of revival meeting and group meditation session.”
In 2010, Founder/Artistic Director, Chris Wells and The Secret City were awarded a Special Citation Obie Award for service to the creative community. Wells, a former stalwart of the LA theatre community and past winner of LA Weekly and Ovation Awards, says, “I am thrilled to begin uniting the creative communities of New York and LA with this gathering.”
Featuring live music, food presentation, storytelling, cultural calendar, visual art and The Secret City Singers, each service is a one-of-a-kind event with deep restorative power and tremendous joy. Guest performers and contributors have included Grammy-award winning singer/songwriter Rosanne Cash, celebrity chefAmanda Freitag, performance artist John Fleck, Obie Award-winners Taylor Mac and Jennifer Miller, and a slew of downtown stars like Sxip Shirey and Jomama Jones.
The Secret City is open to all, suggested donation is $10, but no one is turned away for lack of funds. The Secret City will meet at noon on Sunday, June 10th, at The Bootleg Theatre, 2220 Beverly Boulevard, Los Angeles, 90057. Reservations not required. Free childcare is provided.
