Sweeney Todd is a must see concoction of beautiful voices contrasting magically with the somber tale of one man quest for retribution.
Erica White – LifeInLA
For an evening of fun and ‘scariness’ Sweeney Todd at the Morgan Wixson is just the ticket.
Bonnie Priever – LA Examiner
Otherwise the show mostly achieves little more than a workmanlike level of competence, due in part to Rachelle’s disappointingly anemic pacing and to Anne Gesling’s stodgy choreography. Some of the performers hit the right balance of ghoulishness and gusto, but others demonstrate vocal inexperience and a lack of attention to the layered psychological underpinnings.
Paul Birchall – LA Weekly
The Morgan- Wixson Theatre in Santa Monica is presenting their version of this story in a spirited spooky production directed by Valerie Rachelle. The cast is, for the most part quite good with standout performances by John McCool as Sweeney and AnnaLisa Erickson as Mrs. Lovett.
Robert Machray – Stagehappenings
Sweeney Todd is one of their very best, and considering the Morgan Wixson’s track record, that is high praise indeed.
Steven Stanley – StageSceneLA
Whether any demon barbers actually live on the Fleet Street located a few miles south of Santa Monica would be borderline blasphemy; equally as blasphemous would be to miss the latest rendition of the famous musical at the Morgan-Dixson Theater.
