SWEET
Mr. Nabours has the capability to create works that will not only endure, but inspire his contemporaries to look beyond the drivel which haunts the musical theatre scene (this includes the recitative/rock of Rent to the ubiquitous shows that celebrate rap and hip-hop over substance). I hope it’s not too much pressure when I call him a beacon of light along the rocky and foggy shores of the theatre.
Tony Frankel – Stage and Cinema
SWEET
In this reviewer’s humble opinion, it’s not too soon to declare The Trouble With Words well on its way to a New York run. Nabours’ songs beg to be heard again and again (cast album please), and as brought to life by the brilliant Pearson and a couldn’t-be-better cast and orchestra, they represent the first of many great things to come from their creator.
Steven Stanley – StageSceneLA
BITTER
Gregory Nabours’ musical revue has six singers, six musicians and 19 songs, all searching for a point.
Amy Nicholson – LA Weekly
SWEET
Six singers, six musicians and 19 songs – The Trouble with Words has humor and charisma to burn. Catch the original cast while you can.
Pauline Adamek – ArtsBeatLA
SWEET
Sound issue aside, this is a fantastic piece by one of the most exciting and talented theater companies in town. Definitely GO and do it before the rest of the run sells out, as I have no doubt it will.
Susan Burns – Melpomene Blogs Back
SWEET
Nabour’s original, jazzy songs are funny, heartbreaking, relatable and catchy-as-hell. The tonal change from song to song can, at times, be jarring, but if anything, that is testimony to the emotional depth and performance prowess of the actors in The Trouble With Words.
Marcus Kaye – LA Theatre Review
SWEET
I liked the 60-minute excerpt of The Trouble With Words enough that I hope to see the longer version of Coeurage’s musical revue in its extended run at Actors Circle.
Don Shirley – LA Stage Watch
SWEET
When a theatrical production gets it right; when its artists pour their collective heart and soul into the creative process and meticulously craft a work that fulfills its own prophecy…magic is born. It is beyond exciting to see the fulfillment of such a piece in a tiny theatre in the midst of the Fringe Festival where Coeurage Theatre Company’s The Trouble With Words has proven that it’s not the size of the theatre, but the quality of the work that leaves a lasting impression.
Ellen Dostal – Musicals in LA
SWEET
Judging from their current offering, The Trouble With Words, they should be doing quite well. The musical is a song cycle by Gregory Nabours and is bound to have a future in New York.
